Writting a Compelling Pitch

Follow these steps to help give your release the best shot at playlist placements and editorial support

The Sound 🎧

Start with the music itself. Describe the genre, mood, energy, themes and overall sound. Rather than saying the track is “exciting” or “unique”, try to explain what the listener will actually hear. Is it a euphoric indie-pop single? A dark club-focused electronic track? A stripped-back vocal-led ballad? A high-energy rap release built around a sharp hook?

Context 📖

Is it the first single from an EP, part of an album campaign, a new direction, a collaboration, or a follow-up to a strong previous release? This helps editors understand the story behind the music.

Audience👥

Avoid positioning the track as if it is for everyone. Mention relevant genres, moods, similar artists, listener types, scenes or territories where the music is likely to connect.

Momentum 📈

Include any signs of momentum. This could be press, radio, TV, online support, sync, live dates, streaming milestones, social growth, chart activity, awards, collaborations, creator activity or strong engagement in specific territories.

Campaign 📣

Let us know what’s planned around the campaign, such as PR, radio, social media, paid ads, live activity, video content, creator outreach, visualisers, remixes or any other confirmed activity supporting the release.

It’s also worth mentioning any previous support or campaign highlights. This could include past DSP playlist support, radio plays, press coverage, syncs, strong social moments, touring highlights, chart positions, streaming milestones, Shazam activity, previous editorial support, or anything else that shows momentum around the artist or release.

Summary 📝

Your final pitch summary should bring together the strongest points: the sound, the story, the audience, the momentum and the campaign. Keep it focused, honest and easy to read.

Playlist support is never guaranteed, but a clear and thoughtful pitch gives your release the best possible chance of standing out to editors.
